Every Child, Every Opportunity

Year 6

Year 6 - Home Learning

Reading

Reading at home is one of the most beneficial ways a child can continue their academic development. It is a skill that feeds into all subjects, introducing pupils to new vocabulary and ideas while developing their own creativity and imagination.

All children in school have a reading book from the year group libraries to read at home. They can perform a quiz to test their retention of information and understanding of what they have read. This allows them to choose books which are appropriate for their reading level.

Children can take quizzes on their reading book at home via accelerated reader and can even perform quizzes on other books they may have at home.

All pupils have reading diaries to note down when they have read and what they have learnt from their reading session.

Don't forget to apply the reading skills you have been taught in school while you read!

SATS Companion and Spellings

In year 6, children are set weekly home through SATs companion from their teachers.

Pupils in school follow the read write inc. phonics and spelling scheme and receive weekly spellings to learn at home.

Below are the year 5 and 6 spelling words which all pupils should be able to spell correctly by the end of year 6.

Maths

Teachers set weekly maths homework through SATs companion.

All children have log ins for TT Rockstars where they can complete games to develop their timestables. Pupils should be regularly be accessing timestable rockstars and may even be directed by their teachers to work on specific areas they need development on. All pupils should be fluent in their timestables up to 12 by the end of year 4.
