Safeguarding

What is Safeguarding and Child Protection?

We take the care of your child very seriously, it is at the forefront of everything that we do at Arden.

Our school will support all children by:

  • Promoting a caring, safe and positive environment within the school.
  • Encouraging self-esteem and self-assertiveness.
  • Effectively tackling bullying and harassment of any kind.

We recognise that some children may be the victims of neglect, physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Staff working with children are well placed to identify such abuse.

In order to protect our children, we aim to:

  • Create an atmosphere where all our children can feel secure, valued and listened to
  • Recognise signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Respond quickly, appropriately and effectively to cases of suspected abuse

Your help as Parents/Carers:

If you have any concerns about your own child, including anything they discuss with you about school, please do not hesitate to come into school and discuss it with a DSL

If you (as a parent, friend or neighbour) have a concern that a child is being harmed, is at risk of harm, or you receive a disclosure you must contact the following staff members as quickly as possible.

Designated Safeguarding Leads:

Everyone working with our children, their parents and carers is aware that:

  • Their role is to listen and note carefully any observations which could indicate abuse
  • They should not attempt to investigate once the initial concern is raised
  • They should involve the Designated Senior Lead (DSL) immediately
  • If the DSLs or the Head Teacher are not available, go to the school office and follow procedures as mentioned above
  • Disclosures of abuse or harm from children may be made at any time

Remember if anything worries or concerns you, report it straight away!

This Policy is aligned to the UNICEF Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Stop County Lines!

What is County Lines?

County lines is a term used in reference to a form of criminal activity in which drug dealers in major cities establish networks for the supply and sale of drugs to users in towns and rural areas, using other people (typically those who are young or otherwise vulnerable) to carry, store, and sell the drugs.

You might think that your child is too young to be affected...but are they?

This is clip has been produced by Moseley Secondary School on a very important issue that may affect some of our children when they are older, or even their sibblings now!

Please take the time to watch this clip and discuss its content with your child.

Safe use of the internet...

Many parents may be thinking of purchasing new equipment for their children over the coming months.  We take the safety of your child very seriously, especially with regard to the internet.  New websites, 'pop-up' all the time and adults take a while to catch up!

Our Policies

Domestic Violence

Sadly, some of our children experience domestic violence in their homes.  Legislation has recently changed and children are now seen as victims.  In response to this, Arden has become an Operation Encompass school.  A member of staff has received training, but please remember, all of our DSLs are here for you.
