Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and to reduce inequalities in attainment.

At Arden Primary School, we recognise that disadvantaged pupils may face a range of barriers to learning. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of background, achieve well and make strong progress across the curriculum.

Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • are currently eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible at any point in the last six years (Ever 6)

  • are looked after by a local authority, or have previously been looked after

  • have a parent serving in the armed forces

  •

The amount of funding received is determined by the January school census and is paid in instalments over the financial year.

At Arden Primary School, leaders use this funding strategically to support disadvantaged pupils through:

  • high-quality teaching, which is the most important lever for improving outcomes

  • carefully targeted academic support to address identified gaps in learning

  • wider strategies to overcome barriers such as attendance, wellbeing and access to enrichment opportunities

Our approach is informed by evidence-based research and is regularly reviewed to ensure that provision is effective and responsive to pupils’ needs. Leaders and governors rigorously monitor the impact of Pupil Premium spending to ensure that it contributes to improved attainment, progress and wider outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

Further details of how we allocate Pupil Premium funding, alongside a review of its impact, can be found in our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement below.
